Mindful Movement Offers Kids and Teen Yoga and Pilates Classes

June 11, 2010 | 0 comments

Mindful Movement, LLC, is now offering kid and teen yoga and Pilates classes at its wellness community located S71 W23325 W. National Ave., in Big Bend. The first of its kind in Waukesha County, Mindful Movement LLC offers a variety of classes to address the health and well-being of kids and teens ages 5-18 starting the week of June 14th.

“Kids and teens are bombarded with mixed messages about health and what it means to live a healthy lifestyle,” said Mindful Movement owner Nicki Noftz. “Mindful Movement is dedicated to providing the information needed to help kids and teens understand what it means to be healthy.”

Noftz, who has created her own brand of Pilates known as Traeh Pilates, has been teaching Pilates to teens for several years. She uses Pilates to help teens relieve stress, balance the body and learn how to make healthy choices. Noftz says, “My passion with teens is beyond Pilates. Pilates is a great way to keep teens engaged in health and well-being. But, health and well-being is beyond just the physical. We create a comfortable environment to help teens discuss important topics, such as college and dealing with peer pressure.” Noftz has been working with kids and teens for 15 years through basketball and softball coaching, Before and After School Programs, various Pilates classes and demonstrations and volunteer opportunities including work with visually impaired and blind teen athletes. Traeh Teen Pilates is for ages 15-18 on Mondays 3:30pm-4:30pm.

Mindful Movement also has hired two new instructors for the kids and teens classes. Traci Peters, who has been trained specifically in yoga for kids and teens, has been brought on board to share her love of yoga and health with the younger generation. “Yoga for children is approached quite differently from adult yoga,” said Peters. “At each stage of development, children’s bodies possess different physical abilities.” Peters teaches Yoga Littles, ages 5-10, on Thursdays 5:00pm-5:45pm, Yoga Buds, ages 11-14, on Mondays 4:45pm-5:45pm and Yogalicious, ages 15-18, on Wednesdays 4:00pm-5:00pm. Niki Burns, who started as a client of Mindful Movement and has been trained by Noftz in Pilates, will share her love of Pilates with kids and pre-teens. Burns says, “We want to get kids moving through the fundamentals of Pilates, a totally organic and fun way to take care of our bodies.” Burns teaches Pila-Kiddies, ages 5-10, on Thursdays 10:30am-11:30am and Youth-a-lates, ages 11-14, on Thursdays 9:00am-10:00am.
