Caregiver Spiritual Retreat on March 27th

March 5, 2010 | 0 comments

Clement Manor is proud to host the 24th annual Caregiver's Spiritual Retreat on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 8:30 – 2:45 p.m. This year’s event, “A Time to Laugh” will provide all caregivers “reasons to laugh through the seasons of caregiving.” Caregivers will have an opportunity to relax, unwind, connect with other caregivers, renew both body and spirit and above all laugh.

The morning program will highlight Rev. Paul Ihlenfeld who will speak about humor and laughter equipping caregivers with skills to more effectively handle the painful parts of living, loving and aging. He will explore why laughter and fun have clinically confirmed healing power and why God would say to us, “For God’s Sake, LAUGH.”

The afternoon program features “Humor, Stress, and Health: Laughing for the Health of It”. Presented by Lynda Markut, author and coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association, this program will provide an overview of caregiver stress and its impact on the body. Lynda will also highlight the impact of humor on the body while effectively laying the groundwork for accepting a lifestyle that includes more humor. Stories, exercise, and reasons to laugh are offered showing how to add more humor into every aspect of what you do.

Keri Gerlach, Director of Marketing at Clement Manor, reports that past events have been very successful in giving caregiver’s a much needed break. “These retreats allow caregivers to connect with others in similar situations. The day away from their responsibilities helps them renew their strength and inspires them to continue facing the challenges and rewards of caregiving.”

Sponsors of this annual retreat include the Alzheimer’s Association, Clement Manor, Home Instead Senior Care, Interfaith Family Caregiver Support Network, Senior Planning Group, Luther Manor, Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Transitions Simplified, Church and Chapel Funeral Homes, and ProHealth Care Regency Senior Communities.

Adult day services will be available at no cost. Prior registration for the program and for adult day care is required. Registration for this event is $15 and includes lunch, time for meditation, chair massage, and small group discussions with other caregivers.

Location: Clement Manor, Center for Enrichment, 9405 W. Howard Avenue, Greenfield, WI 53228
