On September 5, 2010, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ will issue a 44-cent, Mother Teresa commemorative stamp in one design in a pressure-sensitive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. The stamp, designed by Derry Noyes, Washington, DC, goes on sale nationwide September 5, 2010.
With this stamp, the U.S. Postal Service® recognizes Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. The stamp features a por¬tait of Mother Teresa painted by award-winning artist Tho¬mas Blackshear, II of Colorado Springs, Colorado
Noted for her compassion toward the poor and suffering, Mother Teresa (1910-1997)- a Roman Catholic nun and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize- served the sick and destitue of India and the world for nearly 50 years. In 1996, President Clinton and the U.S. Congress awarded her honorary U.S. citizenship, an honor bewtowed on very few.
