Hale girls volleyball

After a thrilling five-game match against Greater Metro Conference dual champion Menomonee Falls on Oct. 11 to end their regular season, the Huskies placed fourth in the GMC Tournament last week.

Hale dropped a marathon 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 26-28, 15-5 match to Falls. The Huskies wound up 5-2 in GMC duals, trailing Falls (7-0) and Brookfield Central (6-1).

Sarah Fabina totaled 46 assists, Erin Barbeau 19 kills and 14 digs, Hannah King five aces and 14 digs and Rachel Voller three blocks for the Huskies.

In first-round GMC Tournament action, the Huskies topped West Allis Central, 25-10, 25-16, 25-18 on Oct. 13 behind 14 kills by Barbeau, 33 assists by Fabina, 15 digs from Kelli Lopez and six aces by King.

The Huskies advanced to the semifinal, where they lost to Brookfield Central. They then lost the third-place match to Falls.

Hale opens WIAA Division 1 regional play at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Ronald Reagan.

Whitnall girls swimming

The Falcons routed Greendale, 116-51, in a Woodland Conference dual meet on Oct. 12.

Laura Sullivan won both the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 9.62 seconds and the 500 freestyle with 5:45.92, while Sarah Arteaga claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:21.27), Lauren Zurowski the 100 butterfly (1:14.27), Danika Johnson the 50 freestyle (28.4 seconds) and Maddie Vokovitch the 200 individual medley (2:31.23).

Also winning for Whitnall were the 200 freestyle relay (1:59) and the 200 medley relay (2:11.81).

The Falcons finished 11th with 99½ points in the Small School Invitational on Saturday. Rachel Stave won the diving portion with 429.7 points.

West Allis girls swimming

Olivia Harders earned a pair of first places and two second places for West Allis in the James Garcia Invitational at Milwaukee Hamilton on Oct. 13.

Harders won the 500 freestyle with 6 minutes, 8.39 seconds and swam with Heather Garland, Meghan Pfeiffer and Brianna Kulas to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:57.17. She also finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:17.35) and teamed with Garland, Jamie Trapp and Kulas for second in the 200 medley relay (2:17.35).

Coming in third were Molly Sykes in the 100 freestyle (1:09.17), Paulina Fortis in the 500 freestyle (6:48.85) and Pfeiffer in the 100 backstroke (1:20.79).

The Wave tallied 364 points for second place.

Greenfield girls swimming

Sienna Bast and Elisa Perez set school records in a dual meet against Wauwatosa West on Oct. 12.

Bast set her mark in the 100 backstroke and also won the 200 individual medley.

Perez set the record in the 500 freestyle and took second in the 200 freestyle.

Esmeralda Perez won the 100 butterfly and came in second in the 50 freestyle. The 200 medley team of Bast, Perez, Brooke Charles and Perez also won.

Coach Tim Locke said Sydney Fricker, Alexis Jordan and Tina Witkowski also had notable efforts.

Central football

Troy Brown ran for 187 yards and touchdowns of 81 and three yards, but the Bulldogs dropped their season finale to Marquette, 41-27, on Friday night.

Waige Fischer added 87 yards rushing - 79 of which came on a touchdown run in the third quarter. He also returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Brandon Danowski returned from injury and completed 6 of 18 passes for 41 yards, including three for 28 yards to Devan Finney.

Central finished its season at 2-5 in the Greater Metro Conference and 3-6 overall.

Whitnall boys cross country

Alex Richardson came in second with 16 minutes, 41 seconds in the Woodland Conference Meet on Friday at Hales Corners Park.

Mitch Olson was ninth (17:20), followed by Tyler Centers 18th (17:49), Derrick Yimsut 19th (17:49), Mason Howard 52nd (19:00), Pat Wyrowski 57th (19:22) and Blake Stencil 62nd (19:30).

The Falcons tallied 100 points for third place.

They will compete in a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Greenfield Park.

Whitnall girls cross country

Danika Johnson and Jasmine Van Tine both finished in the top 10 for the Falcons at Friday's Woodland Conference Meet at Hales Corners Park.

Johnson ran eighth in 16 minutes, while Van Tine was ninth with 16:02. Jennifer Bahling claimed 16th (16:25), Alyssa Woo 36th (17:19), Zora Marinkovich 49th (17:52) and Lydia Pincsak 55th (18:10) for Whitnall, which placed fifth with 118 points.

Greenfield cross country

The Hustlin' Hawks' boys finished sixth with 159 points in the Woodland Conference Meet on Friday at Hales Corners Park.

Casey Sabinash led the way with a 22nd-place finish in 17 minutes, 52 seconds, while Tom Friedbacker was 25th (17:55), Andy Sabinash 29th (18:04), Mike Hensiak 38th (18:30), Cody Hagfors 45th (18:49), Shaun Fleischhacker 51st (18:57) and Sean McClanahan 73rd (20:56).

The girls came in 10th with 281 points as Jamie Bernam took 29th (17:00), Jill Dworschack 48th (17:44), Amber Polachek 65th (19:22), Holly Brown 69th (21:45) and Sara Dworschack 70th (24:13).

Both teams will run in a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet on Saturday at Washington Park.

Hale boys cross country

A sixth-place finish with 126 points in Saturday's Greater Metro Conference Meet was actually better than it sounded for the Huskies.

"We had six state-ranked teams," coach Ron Kurtz said, "starting with Marquette at sixth and ending with us at 18th. We had hoped to be higher, but it held true to form."

Jacob Ebben paced the Huskies, as he was 10th at 16 minutes, 52 seconds, while Milan Stojanovic came in 19th (17:10), Sam Gagliano 30th (17:28), Robert Effinger 33rd (17:29), Sawyer Wickersham 34th (17:46), Tony Lozano 35th (17:50), Tim Ebben 41st (18:08) and Daniel Nelson 46th (18:15).

The Huskies run in a WIAA Division 1 sectional at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at Greenfield Park.

Hale girls cross country

The Huskies tallied 152 points for sixth place in the Greater Metro Conference Meet on Saturday at Mitchell Park.

Ellie Probst came in 18th with 16 minutes, 23 seconds, while Virginia Wightman took 24th (16:37), Elizabeth Elliott 29th (16:47), April Koshen 33rd (16:58), Alyssa Drajkowski 48th (17:38), Emily Zelten 50th (17:41), Jessica Trapp 54th (18:05) and Dana Pomerenke 55th (18:08).

Central boys soccer

Despite a heroic effort from Cesar Castillo, the Bulldogs lost to Menomonee Falls, 7-2, in a WIAA Division 1 regional game on Oct. 11.

Castillo, recovering from a high ankle sprain, scored the first goal and assisted Anthony Rueda on the second.

"He is a talented player and played well despite being only at about 80 percent," said coach Ed Hahn, whose team finished with four victories.

Hale boys soccer

The Huskies were blanked by Hartland Arrowhead, 7-0, in a WIAA Division 1 regional contest on Oct. 11.

The defeat ends the season at 9-10-3, but Hale still posted its first .500 regular season in many years.

Greenfield boys soccer

Goaltenders Eric Frank and Brett Szalacinski combined for seven saves, but the Hustlin' Hawks lost to Franklin, 1-0, in a WIAA Division 1 regional game on Oct. 11.

Whitnall boys soccer

The Falcons fell, 6-0, to Madison LaFollette in a WIAA Division 1 regional contest on Oct. 11, ending their season.

Whitnall girls volleyball

The Falcons lost in pool play at the Woodland Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Earlier last week, Whitnall fell to New Berlin West. Ashley Markowiak collected eight kills and Allison Czaplewski 20 assists in that contest.

The Falcons began WIAA Division 2 regional action on Tuesday at East Troy. If they won, they would visit either Wisconsin Lutheran or New Berlin West on Thursday for a semifinal match.

Central girls volleyball

The Bulldogs finished sixth in last week's Greater Metro Conference Tournament.

They fell to West Allis Hale, 25-10, 25-16, 25-18, on Oct. 13 as Mehryn Kraker and Claire Hankins led in hitting.

Central downed Sussex Hamilton in five games on Saturday to advance to the fifth-place match. Ann Marie Kaczmorowski and Angela Reyes were strong in hitting and blocking, coach Bob Staskunas said.

The Bulldogs then lost to Brookfield East in three games.

Jamie Weigel led in serving, Melissa Smith in setting and Amy Nycz played a solid all-around game, the coach said.

Central also lost a GMC dual to Brookfield East, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21, on Oct. 10 despite eight kills from Kraker, 17 digs by April Wildes, 11 assists from Jenny Wildes, three blocks from Hankins and three aces by Weigel.

The Bulldogs (7-16) visit Greenfield in a WIAA Division 1 regional match at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Central boys cross country

Tyler Miletti finished 21st in 17 minutes, 13 seconds at the Greater Metro Conference Meet on Saturday at Mitchell Park.

Anthony Rueda came in 44th (18:13), Joshua Ostrenga 53rd (18:54), Joshua Boeder 57th (19:33), Damien McFaden 58th (20:03), Collin Borazo 59th (personal-best 20:13) and Wes Anderson 60th (20:52).

The Bulldogs tallied 233 points for eighth place.

They compete in a WIAA sectional meet on Saturday at Greenfield Park.

Central girls cross country

Abby Pranghofer captured 22nd at Saturday's Greater Metro Conference Meet in 16 minutes, 32 seconds in what coach Mark Klobukowski called her best race of the season.

Katie Wardinski was 43rd (personal-best 17:16), while Alex Jonas took 46th (17:31), Becky Schwindt 58th (18:33) and Sam Kass 59th (18:40).

Central boys volleyball

The Bulldogs lost a 25-18, 25-14, 25-15 dual to Brookfield Central on Oct. 12.

Dane Travers posted six kills and eight digs, while Josh Kopplin tallied 18 assists, Derrick Heinemann five blocks and Chris Schwartz three kills.

Hale boys volleyball

Powerful Wauwatosa East swept the Huskies, 25-10, 25-11, 26-24, on Oct. 12.

Zach Bohmann totaled five aces, Savaughn Boston 12 assists and Troy Kruzick four kills for Hale.

Greenfield boys volleyball

Kyle Hanneken collected 11 kills, Kurt Storvik 22 assists, Calvin Beebe nine digs and Turner Panich three blocks in a 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 loss to South Milwaukee on Oct. 12.

Greenfield also fell to Greendale, 25-12, 25-23, 25-15, on Oct. 10.

"We have moments and points where we play well, but we also have moments where we struggle," said coach Kurt Kaempfer, who also praised Parambir Singh for his play.
