Greenfield's Marteney earns WIAC football honor
Greenfield's Ricky Marteney, now playing football for the University of Wisconsin-Stout, was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference special teams player of the week.
Marteney kept the Blue Devils in their game against UW-Stevens Point by hitting three field goals - two in the second quarter to pull UW-Stout within 10-6 at halftime and another in the third to make it 10-9.
He connected on kicks of 19, 17 and 26 yards and narrowly missed a 52-yarder. He went 3-for-5 in field goals and made one extra point for the game, which Stout won, 22-19.
Marteney, a sophomore, is Stout's leading scorer with nine field goals in 12 attempts, with a long of 43 yards, and 6-of-6 extra points for 33 points.
