Rybakowicz leading the way for Greendale/Greenfield swimmers
Sophomore's performances help Panther-Hawks finish fourth at invite
Greenfield - Ross Rybakowicz claimed second place in two events as the Greendale/Greenfield boys swimming team captured fourth place in the Metro Swim Officials Invitational at Homestead on Dec. 29.
Rybakowicz, a sophomore from Greenfield, took the runner-up spot in the 100 breaststroke with 1 minute, 3.78 seconds and the 200 breaststroke at 2:18.43. Teddy Stackman of Bay Port won the 100 with 1:03.64 and Jacob Melville of Waukesha West/Mukwonago claimed the 200 race with 2:14.29.
Another talented underclassman, freshman Rick Perez, placed third in the 100 backstroke with 56.94 seconds and swam with Rybakowicz, Andrew Staszak and Adam Fleischhacker to take third in the 200 medley relay at 1:44.36.
Staszak came in fourth in the 1,000 freestyle with 10:33.42 and fifth in the 500 freestyle at 5:08.73. Also taking fifth were Perez in the 400 individual medley with 4:31.06 and the 200 freestyle squad of Rybakowicz, Shaun Fleischhacker, Shaun Lucchesi and Perez at 1:34.04.
Lucchesi was eighth in the 1,000 freestyle with 10:57.52, giving the Panther-Hawks two in the top eight in that event.
Finishing ninth were Lucchesi in the 200 freestyle (1:57.91) and Shaun Fleischhacker in the 200 individual medley (2:21.14). Joe Hannah was 10th in the 200 butterfly (2:50.1).
Snaring 11th were Andrew Semancik in the 200 butterfly (3:03.14) and Adam Fleischhacker in the 50 freestyle (24.48). Zach Hogan placed 13th in the 200 IM (2:24.17) and Shaun Fleischhacker 14th in the 100 freestyle (53.65).
The Panther-Hawks tallied 208 points for fourth place in the 16-team event, which was won by Hartland Arrowhead (547).
The only other Woodland Conference foe in the invite was Shorewood, which finished in eighth place with 169 points.
Greendale/Greenfield's next meet is the Marquette Invitational at the Schroeder Aquatic Center on Saturday.
