The strikeouts just keep piling up for sophomore pitcher Bella Matthias.
The Hustlin' Hawks won four of five games last week and Matthias continued her dominance over opposing batters.
She fanned 12 and hurled her first career no-hitter in a five-inning 14-0 romp over Brown Deer on May 1. The only base-runner was a strikeout victim who reached base on a passed ball.
Matthias also contributed at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. Sara Kassel went 2-for-3 with a double and Nicollette Curtis 2-for-2 with a double.
One night later, the Hawks blanked Pewaukee, 15-0, as Matthias allowed two hits in five innings, striking out 10.
Kayla Culbertson had two hits and drove in two runs, while Curtis and Maria Montemayor each had two hits.
Greenfield (7-3 going into the week) won two of three at the Germantown Invitational on Saturday, falling 4-1 to Muskego and topping the host school 9-0 and West Bend West, 17-1.
Matthias struck out nine against Muskego, the first time this season she finished with less than 10 strikeouts.
She came back with a career-high 16 strikeouts against Germantown and was helped by a home run from Samantha Weber.
The victory over West was sparked by home runs from Montemayor and Kassel, who was 4-for-4.
"I have never had a girl average as many strikeouts as she has, and we've had some good pitchers," head coach Jack Miller said. "She is a power pitcher and has a wicked curveball."
