Hale girls volleyball

The Huskies controlled things throughout in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 victory over West Allis Central on Sept. 13.

Hannah King collected 14 kills, Sarah Fabina 31 assists, Erin Barbeau 24 digs and Rachel Voller four aces as the Huskies improved to 2-1 in the Greater Metro Conference and handed the Bulldogs their first GMC defeat.

Greenfield boys soccer

Zach Szalacinski and David Castillo both tallied two goals and goaltender Brett Szalacinski made seven saves as the Hustlin' Hawks ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over Waukesha South on Sept. 15.

Lazar Petrovic added one goal and a pair of assists and Castillo also had an assist.

Greenfield dropped a 5-0 decision to South Milwaukee on Sept. 14 and a 1-0 contest to Greendale on Sept. 12.

Goaltender Eric Frank made two saves and Brett Szalacinski five saves for the Hawks against Greendale.

Hale boys soccer

Bobby Saskowski and Sean Schneider scored for the Huskies in a 2-0 victory over Lake Country Lutheran on Friday night.

Alex Kaul and Antonio Rodriguez both contributed assists for Hale (6-5-2).

"We controlled the majority of the possession," said coach Marty Lataille, who noted that Lutheran is coached by Hale graduate Billy Wiedel.

The Huskies also played a solid game against powerhouse Brookfield East on Sept. 13 before falling 3-0.

Greenfield girls volleyball

The Hustlin' Hawks improved to 3-0 in Woodland Conference matches with a 25-11, 25-9, 25-19 victory over Wauwatosa West on Sept. 15.

Lauren Bullock totaled 13 digs, Marlene Hagen three blocks, Franny Wenninger 11 kills, Michelle Matysik five aces and Chesca Pancorbo 25 assists for Greenfield.

Whitnall boys cross country

The Falcons totaled 88 points for third place in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

Alex Richardson came in sixth with 16 minutes, 51 seconds and Mitch Olson was right behind him in seventh with 16:52. Derrick Yimsut placed 22nd (17:58), Pat Wyrowski 24th (18:06), Tyler Centers 29th (18:10), Mason Howard 48th (19:02) and Austin Hurst 59th (20:16).

Greenfield girls swimming

By winning eight events, the Hustlin' Hawks defeated Greendale in a Woodland Conference dual meet on Sept. 14.

Taking firsts were Esmeralda Perez in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Elisa Perez in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Sienna Bast in the 200 and 500 freestyle and Bast, Cayla Mrnik and both Perezes in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Also swimming well were Kristina Nguyen in the 50 freestyle, Phoebe Muszynski in the 100 butterfly and Mrnik in the 100 breaststroke.

Greenfield also placed 14th in the Kenosha Tremper Invitational on Saturday. Bast was 18th in the 100 butterfly (1 minute, 8.64 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.43), while the 400 freestyle team of Bast, Muszynski, Morgan Bochardt and Mrnik was 12th (4:29.38).

Coach Tim Locke also praised Sydney Fricker in the 500 freestyle and Muszynski and Kristen Schmalfeldt in the 100 freestyle.

Central girls volleyball

The Bulldogs advanced to the Gold Division playoffs in the New Berlin West Invitational on Saturday.

They finished second in pool play after losing to Racine Park, 25-15, 25-20; beating Parkview, 18-25, 25-20, 15-11; and topping Milwaukee Vincent, 25-9, 25-7. Coach Bob Staskunas said Alex Craig served well and Ann Marie Kaczmarowski hit well.

Central then lost to Sheboygan Lutheran in the division quarterfinals, 25-23, 25-23. Angela Reyes served well, Staskunas said.

The Bulldogs also lost to Mukwonago on Sept. 15, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15. Mehryn Kraker had nine kills, April Wildes 15 digs and Jenny Wildes eight assists.

Central fell to West Allis Hale, 25-14, 25-14, 25-11, on Sept. 13 despite six kills from Claire Hankins, 11 assists by Jenny Wildes and 14 digs by April Wildes.

Central boys soccer

First, suspensions slowed the Bulldogs this season, now injuries are taking their toll.

Central played without starters Cesar Castillo, Juan Olmedo and Eddie Fregoso last week in two losses, 10-2 to Brookfield Central on Sept. 13 and 2-0 to Franklin on Sept. 15.

Coach Ed Hahn called the Franklin game pretty even and added that goaltender Aaron Gaglione played well with eight saves.

Jason Cervera began the Brookfield contest with his first career goal and Carlos Esparza tallied the other goal.

Whitnall girls cross country

The Falcons used last week for rest and recovery, only running four girls at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

Jasmine Van Tine took seventh in 15 minutes, 54 seconds, her first time under 16 minutes. Alyssa Woo claimed 22nd (personal-best 16:23), Jennifer Bahling 32nd (16:39) and Kim Hurst 36th (personal-best 16:50).

Whitnall girls tennis

The first doubles team of Sammi Zacher and Liz Menden won a 6-0, 6-0 decision as the Falcons downed Greenfield, 6-1, on Sept. 13.

Greenfield cross country

The Hustlin' Hawks placed eighth with 207 points in the Waukesha South Invitational on Saturday.

Andy Sabinash was 22nd in 18 minutes, 6 seconds, while Casey Sabinash took 30th (18:20), Shaun Fleischhacker 48th (18:47), Tom Friedbacker 53rd (18:52) and Mike Hensiak 54th (18:52).

The girls had an incomplete team. Jamie Bernam finished 14th (17:03), Jill Dworschack 32nd (17:32) and Amber Polachek 69th (19:00).

Hale boys cross country

Lead runner Jacob Ebben returned from injury and the Huskies claimed eighth with 205 points in the Angel Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.

Ebben finished 49th in 17 minutes, 24 seconds.

"We ran him cautiously," coach Ron Kurtz said. "He scored for us and is on the road to recovery."

Milan Stojanovic led Hale with 29th place (16:52), while Sam Gagliano was 36th (17:05), Robert Effinger 39th (17:09), Sawyer Wickersham 52nd (17:26), Alex Murray 54th (17:29) and Tony Lozano 75th (17:47).

Hale girls cross country

The Huskies finished 16th with 411 points at the Angel Invitational at UW-Parkside on Saturday.

Virginia Wightman claimed 49th in 16 minutes, 42 seconds, the 14th-best time for a Hale senior. April Koshen came in 76th (17:11, the 19th-best time for a Hale freshman).

Alyssa Drajkowski was 77th (17:13), Elizabeth Elliott 79th (17:15) and Jessica Trapp 143rd (18:41).

Central boys cross country

Tyler Miletti led the way for the Bulldogs in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday with 13th place in 17 minutes, 22 seconds.

Anthony Rueda took 26th (18:07), Joshua Boeder 46th (18:59), Joshua Ostrenga 58th (20:09), Damien McFaden 60th (20:22), Collin Borazo 61st (21:37) and Fred Birchbauer 63rd (21:48) for Central, which was ninth with 203 points.

Central girls cross country

The Bulldogs scored 290 points for 10th place at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

Katie Wardinski came in 50th with 17 minutes, 30 seconds.

"Katie continues to get better each week, along with our other varsity freshman, Becky Schwindt, who finished 58th in 18:12," coach Mark Klobukowski said.

Abby Pranghofer took 55th (17:51), Laura Kovach 61st (18:58) and Dana Batchelor 66th (21:29).

West Allis girls swimming

Divers Alyssa Elder, Cierra Dufay and Krista Narlock swept the top three places in a dual meet against Wauwatosa East on Sept. 15.

Olivia Harders won the 500 freestyle in 6 minutes, 4.74 seconds and the 200 individual medley with 2:40.29.

"She is faster than last year at this time (in the 500) and well on her way to breaking her goal time of six minutes this year," coach Carl Kaiser said.

Kaiser also praised Tara Kelley for her performance in the 50 freestyle (30.27 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:29.76).

The team, which lost the dual 122-61, also scored 23 points for 11th place in the Port Washington Invitational on Saturday.

Central boys volleyball

The Bulldogs finished 0-6 in pool play of their own invitational on Saturday.

They lost competitive matches to Brookfield Central, 21-16, 23-22; Fort Atkinson, 21-15, 21-19; and Greendale, 22-20, 21-19..

They beat Waukesha North, 25-20, 25-21, 13-25, 27-25, on Sept. 14 behind eight kills from Jake Robers, 32 assists by Josh Kopplin, 18 digs from Dane Travers and four blocks by Derrick Heinemann.

Central lost to Kenosha Tremper, 25-9, 25-8, 25-17, on Sept. 12.

Whitnall boys soccer

The Falcons lost a 3-0 decision to Wauwatosa West on Sept. 14, but trailed only 1-0 until the 68th minute of play.

Whitnall girls volleyball

The Falcons came up short against both Greendale and New Berlin Eisenhower in Woodland matches last week.

They lost to Greendale, 25-9, 25-16, 25-18, on Sept. 13 despite 15 digs from Brittany Treuer, 13 assists by Allison Czaplewski and six kills from Jessica Lutzen.

Whitnall fell to Eisenhower, 25-9, 25-14, 25-14, on Sept. 15. Ashley Markowiak had seven kills, four aces and three blocks, while Lauren Ray totaled 10 assists and Treuer 13 digs.

Greenfield boys volleyball

The Hustlin' Hawks dropped a 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 dual to Greendale on Sept. 14.

Adam Garlie collected 15 digs and Kyle Hanneken 11 kills and 15 assists for Greenfield.

Greenfield girls tennis

Lynn Pipke won her first singles match, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, but that was the Hustlin' Hawks' only victory in a 6-1 loss to Pewaukee on Sept. 15.

Greenfield also dropped a 7-0 dual to New Berlin West on Sept. 12 and a 6-1 decision to Whitnall on Sept. 13. Pipke downed Leah Symborski, 6-2, 6-1.

West Allis girls tennis

The team lost 7-0 to Greater Metro Conference powers Brookfield Central on Sept. 13 and Divine Savior Holy Angels on Sept. 15.
