Whitnall honors own athletes at banquet
More than 100 varsity athletes, team managers and three-year same sport participants were honored for their achievements by the Whitnall Falcon Booster Club and Whitnall High School at Klemmer's Banquet Hall on May 23.
Individual athletes received the following special awards: girls scholar athlete, Allison Barnhart; outstanding athlete, Lisa Donaldson; coaches award, Amy Ford; boys scholar athlete, Jake Lehmann; outstanding athlete, Jake Lehmann; coaches award, Nikolai Miskov.
The Knueppel Award was given to Rachel Niles. The recipient is selected for strength of spirit and heart in addition to athletic ability. As part of an endowment by the Knueppel family, this award has been given annually since 1990 and rewards and recognizes the Whitnall athlete who works and trains hard to do the best within his or her own level.
Hale announces athletic scholarship award winners
The West Allis Hale booster club has named this year's 2010 Blandino Scholarship Award recipients: Ben Koeppen, Julia Eckert, Courtney Mielke, Ajay Sreekanth and Eric Schrader.
The award recognizes the student-athletes for their academic achievements, their leadership in student and athletic activities as well as sportsmanship, school spirit, character and good citizenship. Each winner is awarded a $500 scholarship named after Mary Blandino, who taught and coached at Hale for more than 30 years
Greenfield, West Allis on girls AAU second-place team
The WBA Prestige U12 girls basketball team took second place at the state AAU basketball tournament in Stoughton Saturday and Sunday and qualified for the national tournament in Rochester, Minn.
In a semifinal game, Prestige beat the ABC Knights, 55-47, one day after the Knights beat Prestige by 19 points. In the championship game, Prestige lost to the Wisconsin Central Force from Marshfield.
The team includes New Berlin's Kailey Vogel and Marisa Meulemans, Greenfield's Dana Schwab, Glendale's Briana Silverberg, Franklin's Jada Flazon, Milwaukee's LaKayla Johnson and Gabrielle Green, Pewaukee's Jenna Goulet, Oak Creek's Jenna Santi, Racine's Holly Grajera and West Allis' Katie Swofford and Annie Staskunas.
Former college tight end offers free football camp
A free camp for football tight ends entering grades seven through 12 will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. June 23 and 24, at Marquette Valley Fields, 1818 W. Canal St., Milwaukee.
Campers will receive position-specific instruction from current and former NCAA players with expert insight, including Jim Place, a former starting tight end at Ball State University.

Cardinal Stritch offering four-day boys basketball camp
The Cardinal Stritch Resident Camp will be June 13-16.
The camp, for boys entering fifth through eighth grade, features instruction from top high school coaches in the state, drill work and skill-development sessions, daily competitions and league games and much more.
The cost is $300 and includes room and meals for the entire camp. Campers will stay in Clare Hall on the Cardinal Stritch campus. Check-in is at 4 p.m. June 13. The camp concludes with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. June 16.

Carroll University summer basketball camps approaching
The Carroll University men's basketball program is hosting a series of camps in May, June, and July.
All camps are directed by head coach Dave Buchanan and his staff. Each participant will receive a free basketball, T-shirt, skills packet, and awards for contest winners.

Figure skaters help UW team take sixth
A pair of area figure skaters helped the University of Wisconsin individual figure skating team to a sixth-place finish at the 2010 Intercollegiate Collegiate Championships April 16-17 at the University of Delaware.
Layne Heidenreich of West Allis was sixth in junior solo dance and Juliana Hermann of Greenfield was sixth in juvenile free skate.
The UW team, in only its second year of existence, was the surprise team of the collegiate figure skating season, finishing second in the Midwest Region to qualify for nationals.
Heidenreich and Hermann and several of their teammates have skated for the Wisconsin Figure Skating Club, primarily at the Pettit National Ice Center.
UWM to hold basketball camp for girls in June
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee girls basketball fundamental day camp is scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 14-18.
The camp, for girls entering grades one through eight, includes fundamental skills sessions, games and contests, and will be held at the UWM Klotsche Center, 3409 N. Downer Ave.
The cost is $150.

Greenfield announces dates for summer basketball camps
The Greenfield girls basketball program will offer three different camps this summer.
The Footwork and Skills Camp is June 28-July 2; the Defensive Camp is July 26-30; and the Offensive Movement and Shooting Camp is Aug. 9-13.
All camps are at Greenfield High School from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and cost $60 each or $150 for all three.

Greenfield boys basketball camps set for summer
The Greenfield boys basketball program will hold three different camps this summer.
A shooting camp will be held June 21 to 24, a basic skills camp from June 28 to July 1 and a defensive camp from July 12 to 15.
All camps are at Greenfield High School and cost $75 each.
