West Allis Central boys basketball

Nearly five Bulldogs reached double digits in scoring as Central remained undefeated with a 64-55 win at Kettle Moraine on Dec. 1.

Nick Starich scored 17 points, including nine from the free-throw line, to lead the Bulldogs, but he had plenty of help.

Anthony Harris finished with 12 points, Najeal McMillan had 11, Jarvis Garrett tallied 10 and Robert Fabry had nine in the balanced offensive showing.

Central entered the Greater Metro Conference opener at Hale on Tuesday with a 3-0 record.

West Allis Hale boys basketball

Another narrow defeat kept the Huskies from snapping their long losing streak.

Despite 15 points from Chris Rivera and 13 from Taylor Chladek, Hale lost to host Wilmot Union, 53-49, six days after opening the season with a three-point loss to Milwaukee School of Languages.

Landon Tenhagen scored 11 points and Grant Dull 10 to carry Wilmot.

Two days later, the Huskies were thumped by host Waterford, 70-38, the Huskies' 25th consecutive loss.

Waterford's Beau Steffens and Brent Kuschewski had 13 points each. No Hale player scored more than eight.

West Allis Central girls basketball

Senior center Lauren Hibbard scored more than half of her team's points and kept the Bulldogs undefeated with a 41-39 home win over Madison East on Dec. 1.

Hibbard, who was only third on her team in scoring with eighth points in a season-opening win over West Bend West three days earlier, scored 22 against Madison East as Central improved to 2-0 entering this week.

The Bulldogs outscored the Purgolders by eight points in the fourth quarter.

Madison East's Makailah Dyer had 14 points.

Whitnall swimming

The Falcons boys swim team won a season-opening home dual, 87-83, over South Milwaukee on Dec. 1.

Whitnall's 200-yard medley relay of Jesse Hodel, Curtis Wigington, Alex Litzenberg and Nick Ratkowski won in 1 minute, 58.10 seconds.

Ratkowski (50 and 100 freestyles), Wigington (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Litzenberg (500 free) and Hodel (100 back) also won individual events.

Whitnall wrestling

Whitnall whipped a pair of Woodland Conference foes to open the season Dec. 2.

In a triangular at Brown Deer, Whitnall beat Greendale, 72-12, behind pins from Zach Noel (135 points), Matt Price (140), Zach Menden (145), Jeremy Brunner (189) and Dominic Scardino (285).

Whitnall also got pins from Noel, Price and Scardino in a 64-18 win over the host school.

The Falcons also went 3-2 to take fifth of eight teams at the Tom Manely Duals at East Troy on Saturday.

Greenfield wrestling

Greenfield lost its league opener, 31-28, against the New Berlin co-op at New Berlin West on Dec. 2.

The Hawks got pins by Josh Quiles, Steve Fisher and Taylor Wirtz to take a quick 18-0 lead, and decisions by Kevin Vazquez, William Sura and Patrick Bruyette made it 28-17. But that lead did not hold up.

The Hawks also placed fourth of 11 teams at the Campbellsport Invite on Saturday.

Fisher, Wirtz and Bruyette were all runners-up in their respective weight classes. Andrew Krueger was third, Jake McClanahan and Tyler Flink took fourth and Bryan Donovan, Andrew Patrick and Zach Stelse were fifth.

Greenfield/Greendale swimming

The PantherHawks won their conference opener, 89-81, at Brown Deer on Dec. 2.

Coach Dale Schrank credited his team's depth with the win, praising Tom Miller's swim in the 100 butterfly, Craig Fleischhacker's efforts in the distance events and Zach Hogan's times in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

The co-op's Jack Lennertz won the 100 butterfly (50.77 seconds), Matt Jungers won the 200 individual medley (2:01.40) and Mike Lucchesi claimed the 500 free in a lifetime best (4:53.00).

Greenfield boys basketball

The Hustlin' Hawks have been unable to build on their opening-night victory.

Since beating Milwaukee School of Languages in the first round of their own tournament Nov. 27, the Hawks have lost three straight, including a pair of league contests to open the Woodland Conference season.

Three Hawks scored in double digits, but it was not enough as Greenfield lost to visiting Brown Deer, 60-53, Dec. 1.

Greenfield's Alex Molter led all players with 21 points, followed by Iyad Assad's 14 and Austin Jacobsen's 12. Brown Deer had five players with seven or more, including Kiere's Ogbanna's 19.

Three days later at New Berlin West, the Hawks struggled offensively and lost, 65-32.

Ricky Santiago had 10 points and Molter nine for Greenfield, which dropped to 1-4 overall, 0-2 conference as of Monday.

Greenfield girls basketball

Andrea Lewis' 17 points were not enough as the Hawks lost their season debut at Brown Deer, 54-33, Dec. 1.

Brown Deer's Chelsea Stingley had 13 and Ariel Feirtag and Monique Morris chipped in 12 each.

Lewis had a team-high seven points in a 63-25 home loss to New Berlin West three nights later, Greenfield's 20th straight defeat dating back to last season.

West Allis Hale girls basketball

The Huskies struggled offensively out of the gate in a pair of nonconference losses.

Hale was held without a point in the second quarter of a 47-18 loss at Whitefish Bay on Dec. 1 and managed just 15 points through the first three quarters of a 52-32 home loss to Waterford on Friday.
