Whitnall soccer
Whitnall's Nikolai Miskov scored twice to lead the Falcons past the visiting Greenfield Hustlin' Hawks, 3-1, Sept. 14.
Greenfield scored first in the 20th minute on a breakaway from Jesus Cisneros. Whitnall tied it up on an outstanding shot from 25 yards out by defenseman Nathan Barnhart in the 62nd minute on a pass from Cole Davidson.
Eight minutes later, Miskov, on a through ball from Stefan Filipovic, split the defense and put it past Greenfield's keeper to give Whitnall a 2-1 lead. In the 75th minute, it was again the combination of Filipovic to Miskov that put the game out of reach.
Two days later, the host Greendale Panthers scored in the 87th minute to snap a scoreless tie and send the Falcons (3-2 conference) home with a 1-0 overtime loss.
West Allis Hale soccer
A pair of second-half goals gave host Hale the edge over Central in a Greater Metro Conference match Sept. 14.
Hale's Jose Alcaraz and Antonio Rodriguez each scored in the second half to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Huskies a 4-2 victory.
Hale also got a pair of first-half goals by Andre Kaul.
The Huskies, who lost, 5-0, at Marquette on Sept. 15, also finished seventh in the New Berlin West Quad on Friday and Saturday.
Greenfield soccer
The Hustlin' Hawks snapped their season-opening four-match league losing streak with a 2-1 win over host Cudahy/St. Francis on Sept. 16.
Jesus Cisneros scored in the first half to give Greenfield a 1-0 lead. After Cudahy/St. Francis' Chris Steffes tied the score later in the first, Greenfield's Tyler Braden snapped the tie and the Hawks (1-4 conference) held on for the win.
West Allis Central cross country
Alex Gonzales' impressive 17th-place run of 17 minutes, 3.5 seconds helped the Bulldogs take 13th of 32 teams at the Angel Invitational on Saturday.
Central's Casey Muszytowski finished 62nd in 17:49.8.
Central's Abby Pranhofer placed 27th (16:12.7) and Liz Lindner 77th (16:43.1) to help the girls take 17th.
Whitnall cross country
With five runners in the top 20, the Falcons boys edged runner-up Racine Horlick, 51-56, to win the 10-team Franklin Invite on Friday.
Whitnall's Jake Lehmann was third overall in 17:34, behind only Horlick's Johnny Binzak's 16:40 and Franklin's Tyler Jensen's 17:24. Whitnall's Mitch Olson was close behind in 17:41, good for sixth.
In another pack of runners, the Falcons' Rob Emmett was 11th in 17:51 and Eric Windt 12th in 17:54. Whitnall's Jack Kasprzak ran 19th in 18:24.
Dana Steffen's third-place effort in 15:36 and Lindsey Lent's 10th-place run of 16:29 led the Whitnall girls, who were third with 85 points.
West Allis swimming
Sophomore Olivia Harders won a pair of races in West Allis' 114-72 loss to the host Wauwatosa East Red Raiders on Sept. 17.
Harders first won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 16.20 seconds, more than 3 seconds better than the runner-up. Later, she claimed the 500 free by 7 seconds in 6:06.54.
West Allis' Kristin Provencher led her team's 1-2-3 sweep in diving with 180.15 points.
Diver Ashley Elder was victorious with 292.9 points as West Allis placed fourth in the seven-team Port Washington Pirate Invitational on Saturday.
Greenfield girls volleyball
The Hustlin' Hawks lost their edge in the race for the Woodland Conference title when they fell, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22, to the visiting Wauwatosa West Trojans on Sept. 17.
The Trojans improved to 4-0 in league play; Greenfield fell to 3-1
Allison Schell had 28 assists and three aces and Leah Bullock made 21 digs in a losing effort.
Two days earlier, Greenfield downed the visiting New Berlin Eisenhower Lions, 25-20, 14-25, 25-22, 25-15, behind 12 kills each by Angelica Bailey and Andrea Solberg.
Alison Schell added a match-high 38 assists and Bullock made 17 digs.
Greenfield boys volleyball
After being swept by 2008 state qualifier New Berlin on Sept. 14, the Hustlin' Hawks bounced back with a 3-1 win over host Greendale two days later.
Greenfield won, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-11, behind Alec Molter's 16 kills, Connor Lewandowski's 12 digs and Pat Stemo's 25 assists. Kevin Hanneken blocked five shots and Seth Kaempfer added four aces.
Whitnall girls volleyball
The Falcons pushed the host Greendale Panthers to the limit before falling in five games Sept. 15.
The host pulled out a 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 15-13 victory.
Whitnall's Kelly Ertl had 12 digs and four aces and Kristen Neuendorf blocked six shots in a losing effort.
At home against New Berlin Eisenhower two days later, the Falcons (1-4 conference) lost, 25-19, 26-24, 25-13, despite Brittney Brezgel's seven kills and four aces.
Greenfield cross country
Sophomore Jamie Bernam's 20th-place run in 17:17.5 highlighted the Hustlin' Hawks' efforts at the Franklin Invite on Friday.
Bernam turned in the fifth-best time among her classmates. Oconomowoc sophomore Mandy Prom won in 15:15.7.
West Allis Hale cross country
A pack of runners within 17 seconds of each other helped the Hale boys take 12th of 32 teams and beat two state-ranked teams at the Angel Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
Alex Murray led in 17:34, good for 35th, and was followed closely by Sawyer Wickersham (75th, 17:45.4) and Jacob Ebben (126th, 17:51.4).
For the girls, who were 16th of 33 teams, Abby Lutz ran 61st in 16:51.2.
