WHITNALL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Falcons battled higher seed New Berlin Eisenhower for five games before falling, 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 21-25, 15-12, in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal match on Oct. 24.
Lauren Ray tallied 18 kills, Kim Ertl 24 assists, Rachael Jaszczenski 16 digs and Kendall Stribling six blocks for Whitnall.
On Oct. 22, the Falcons dropped St. Francis, 25-21, 25-21, 25-15, in a regional quarterfinal match. Jaszczenski totaled 10 kills, Ray 12 assists and five service aces and Amanda Rosenwald nine digs.
Whitnall enjoyed a solid 2013 season, taking second in Woodland Conference duals at 6-1 and finishing second in the Kettle Moraine Tournament and third in its bracket of the Germantown Invitational.
GREENFIELD GIRLS SWIMMING
Elisa Perez won both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke to help the Hustlin' Hawks top Greendale 98-85 in a Woodland Conference crossover meet on Oct. 23.
Also winning were Mariah Misko in diving, Claudia Kirkpatrick in the 50 freestyle and Perez, Kirkpatrick, Brooke Charles and Cayla Mrnik in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay events.
Greenfield, which lost just to Shorewood in Woodland duals this season, now looks toward the Woodland Conference Meet at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 in its home natatorium.
"If we can just stay healthy and keep our focus on the right aspects of the races, I think we are on the verge of some very exciting swims," head coach Dale Schrank said.
HALE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Ellie Probst led the way for the Huskies with 18th place in 16 minutes, 24 seconds at a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet on Saturday at Mitchell Park.
Probst missed qualifying for state as an individual by five places and 15 seconds.
Madison Mihaljevic took 23rd (16:43), Grace Kusik 25th (16:50, a personal best by 27 seconds), April Koshen 26th (16:51), Caroline Daniels 27th (16:51), Jenna Freund 38th (17:40) and Dana Pomerenke 41st (17:48).
The Huskies tallied 119 points for fifth place in the meet, which was won by Brookfield Central's 26 points. Divine Savior Holy Angels took second with 69 points and also qualified as a team for Saturday's state meet.
CENTRAL BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Ryan Twaroski placed 20th with 17 minutes, 22 seconds for the Bulldogs in a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at Mitchell Park in Brookfield on Saturday.
Twaroski came within 15 seconds of qualifying for the Nov. 2 state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.
"He has set himself up for a run at the state meet next year," head coach David Rudey said of Twaroski.
Ruslan Steininger came in 36th (17:50), Collin Borazo 42nd (18:03), Enrico Andrilli 44th (18:11), Jack Rindahl 57th (18:47), Kevin Baier 66th (19:08) and Joey Kleist 73rd (19:42) for the Bulldogs.
As a team, Central finished eighth in the sectional with 194 points.
The meet capped the season for the Bulldogs, and Rudey said senior captains Borazo, Dylan Kuchinski and Anthony Alioto were strong team leaders this season.
GREENFIELD CROSS COUNTRY
The boys team scored 175 points for seventh place in a WIAA Division 1 sectional race at Brookfield's Mitchell Park on Saturday.
Andy Sabinash paced the Hustlin' Hawks with 21st place in 17 minutes, 24 seconds and was followed by Tom Friedbacher in 28th (17:38), Dylan Kumbera 29th (17:38), Quinton Kufahl 50th (18:28), Casey Sabinash 51st (18:28), Brandon Dachowski 61st (19:00) and Zach Rian 74th (19:50).
The girls finished 10th with 300 points. Leslie Hoffman led the Hawks with 49th place (18:23), while Emma Frohna ran 59th (19:00), Natalia Coralic 66th (19:49) and Charlotte Baerhold 67th (20:04).
The Greenfield boys in particular had a solid season, winning the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Invitational and taking second in the Franklin Invitational and third in the Woodland Conference Meet. The girls were hampered by injuries much of the year.
CENTRAL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Bulldogs saw their season end with a 25-12, 26-28, 25-11, 25-20 loss to West Allis Hale in a WIAA Division 1 regional match on Oct. 24.
Mary Martens and Rachel Sura paced Central in kills, while Amber Wegner led the team in digs and Carly Weigel in assists.
Head coach Bob Staskunas said Taylor Matysik set well, Caitlin Schmidt did well with serve-receive and Jenny Kosinski played well in the back row.
"Just like all year, the girls played well at times but had lapses," Staskunas said. "The consistency was an issue and we had runs against us that we could not stop at one or two points."
The Bulldogs are losing 10 seniors but will return some key contributors for next season.
CENTRAL BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Bulldogs fell to Brookfield Central 25-18, 25-11, 25-11 in a dual on Oct. 23.
Josh Kopplin totaled nine kills, Lucky Yang 18 assists, Dmitro Zelenyuk nine blocks and Dan Doyle five digs for Central.
The next action will be a WIAA regional match at Wauwatosa West at 6 p.m. Nov. 1.
HALE BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Huskies lost a Greater Metro Conference dual to Wauwatosa East 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 on Oct. 23.
Parker Voller led the team with 10 kills, while Timothy Cha collected 23 assists and Zach Bohmann 12 digs.
Hale visits Brookfield Central at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 in a WIAA regional match.
GREENFIELD/WHITNALL BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Raptors open WIAA tournament play at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Greenfield High School against Pius XI.
They are the third seed in their sectional, while Pius is the sixth seed.
The winner plays second seed Whitefish Bay/Dominican at Bay at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.
WEST ALLIS GIRLS SWIMMING
The Wave finished fourth with 310 points in the Greater Metro Conference junior varsity meet on Oct. 26.
Lyric Roohr won the 200 individual medley with 2 minutes, 49.67 seconds, a season best by over six seconds. She also was fourth in the 100 freestyle with 1:07.62.
Abby Scardino took second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:31.49 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Roohr, Shyann Fleury, Asya Weed and Jessa Meier placed fourth at 4:51.11.
Weed was sixth in the 50 freestyle (31.36 seconds) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:10.85, a personal best by over two seconds).
The West Allis varsity team will swim in its conference meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at Brookfield Central.
