Greenfield - The bats came out in a big way for Greenfield's baseball team in a couple of games last week.
The Hustlin' Hawks downed Shorewood, 9-1, on Saturday as Nick Jablonski went 3-for-4 with one run batted in and Travis Hyatt 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Pitcher Tyler Laverdure shut down the Greyhounds, allowing just three hits in seven innings, to pick up the victory.
The Hawks also pounded South Milwaukee, 18-2, in the opener of a two-game series on June 11.
Laverdure led the way with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and six RBIs. Richard Thomas had two hits and brought in three runs, while Kyle Holmes had three hits and two RBIs, Jablonski three hits and Ryan Manzuk two RBIs.
Laverdure took care of the pitching, allowing four hits and striking out six, in the victory.
Greenfield did not fare as well the next night against the Rockets, falling by a 10-5 count. Jablonski drove in three runs with two hits and Laverdure also brought in one run. Peter Eidsmoe took the loss, although he struck out seven in his five innings.
The Hawks lost to New Berlin West, 12-5, on Saturday. Laverdure and Tyler Haim each had two hits and drove in a run, while Hyatt and Jablonski each brought in one run.
In their only other game last week, the Hawks fell to Brown Deer, 10-0, on June 14. Laverdure had two hits, including a double.
Greenfield, which was 3-6 in the Woodland Conference and 3-12 overall going into this week, met first-place Greendale in a two-game set on Monday and Tuesday.
The Hawks welcome New Berlin West at 5 p.m. Thursday and visit Pewaukee at 5 p.m. Friday. They take on Wauwatosa West at Breitlow Field in Wauwatosa at 5 p.m. Monday and then host the Trojans next Tuesday.
West Allis Central
Something about West Allis Hale brings out the best in the Bulldogs.
Central defeated the Huskies, 11-8, on June 12 for their second victory over their rival this season. Dylan Diebitz worked four innings to pick up the victory, and he and Michael Manlick combined for eight strikeouts.
The Bulldogs, 3-10 in the Greater Metro Conference coming into this week, had beaten the Huskies in their other meeting, 3-2, with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Central, though, did not score in any of its other three games last week, falling to Sussex Hamilton, 10-0, on Friday night; to Muskego, 7-0, on June 14 and to Brookfield Central, 6-0, on June 11.
The Bulldogs managed just two hits against Hamilton and were no-hit by Muskego's tandem of Nate Hammel and Alec Johnson in the June 14 game. Brandon Burdick collected a pair of hits against Brookfield Central.
West Allis Hale
Nick Sotiros went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs batted in as the Huskies nipped Muskego, 8-7, on June 11 in a Greater Metro Conference game.
Sam Versnik also was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Patrick Heal and Marcel Mundt each had two hits and Zach Smith an RBI. Alex Elenteny got the victory after working 6 1/3 innings, then Zach Minch picked up the save.
The Huskies then fell to West Allis Central, 11-8, on June 12 despite three hits and three RBIs by Sotiros, two hits and two RBIs from Brian Kimpel and two hits from Heal.
Hale fell to Brookfield Central, 6-5, in eight innings on Friday as Kimpel drove in two runs and Dan Sotiros and Garet Morgenroth each one. Stephen Metzdorf took the loss for the Huskies, who allowed Central to tally four times in the seventh to tie the game.
The Huskies also lost to Oak Creek, 12-1, on June 14. Nick Sotiros doubled and drove in the lone run for Hale.
