Locals help Angelswin state championships

A number of local players were on the Milwaukee Angels select youth baseball teams which swept USSSA state championships at a tournament in Oconomowoc.

The U-9, U-10 and U-12 teams all won their first state crowns, while the U-11 squad took its third straight title and moved its tournament record to 15-0 in those three years.

The U-12 team will visit Cooperstown, New York, at the end of July.

Local players are as follows: U-9, Mason Klafka, Brandin Podziemski, Brandon Stein and Cameron Wiczek, all of Greenfield; U-10, Tyler Drezek and Colin Kalinowski of West Allis and Brady Zaksewski of Greenfield; U-11, Kyle Jablonski of Greenfield and Ryan Kalinowski of West Allis; and U-12, Parker Panich of Greenfield.

Tryouts for next year's teams are as follows:

U-9 and U-10 on Sunday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at Froemming Park, 51st Street and Puetz Road in Franklin. Contact John at sommerfeld4@yahoo.com.

Steffen capturessoccer all-state honor

Dana Steffen of Whitnall High School was included among the Best of the Rest in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State team for the 2011 season.

Steffen, a senior midfielder, totaled 23 goals and 16 assists for the Falcons.

Impact Baseball holdsopen tryouts for 2012

Impact Baseball, a Wisconsin-based organization, is holding open tryouts for players to be on 2012 U-9 through U-14 teams.

Teams will play a state-based regular season, along with select tournaments.
