Jack Lennertz made his mark during the Bob White Invitational on Saturday at Wauwatosa West.
He broke a 35-year-old pool record in winning the 100 butterfly with 51.94 seconds, eclipsing the old record of 53.1 set by Dave Melville of Waukesha.
Matt Jungers won gold in the 100 backstroke with 55.87, and he and Lennertz also swam on two winning relay teams, the 200 medley with Ross Rybakowicz and Shaun Fleischhacker in 1 minute, 43.66 seconds and the 400 freestyle with Andrew Staszak and Shaun Lucchesi at 3:26.27.
Lennertz was also second in the 100 freestyle (50.76), and Staszak was runnerup in the 500 freestyle (5:10.46). Others who scored included divers Wil Kivlin and Liam Duffy and swimmers Tom Miller, Zach Hogan, Jeff Jacobs and Adam Fleischhacker.
The Panther-Hawks scored 374 points for second, behind Brookfield's 479.
Greenfield/Greendale also downed Shorewood, 99-84, in a Woodland Conference crossover dual on Jan. 26.
"From now on, every swim counts," said coach Dale Schrank. "The race rehearsals are over."
Whitnall boys basketball
After a tough 52-49 loss to Wauwatosa West on Jan. 25, the Falcons bounced back with a resounding 60-32 romp over Greendale on Friday.
Stephen Pelkofer totaled a game-high 24 points, while Luke Mentkowski put in 11 for Whitnall, which improved to 10-2 in the Woodland Conference Black Division (11-5 overall), one game ahead of South Milwaukee and New Berlin Eisenhower (9-3).
Against Tosa West, Pelkofer had 13 points and Mentkowski 10.
Central-Hale boys basketball
A 24-12 third quarter enabled West Allis Central to pull away from rival West Allis Hale and pick up a 67-43 victory on Jan. 25.
Najeal McMillian led a balanced Central attack with 16 points, while Anthony Harris added 13 and Jarvis Garrett 12. For Hale, Steve Kopet tallied 13 points, Derrick Waller 10 and Nick Sotiros seven.
On Friday, the Bulldogs were nipped by Sussex Hamilton, 43-41. McMillian scored 11 points and Garrett and Tonnie Collier each 10 for Central (4-5 in the GMC, 5-11 overall going into this week).
Hale lost to Menomonee Falls, 57-32, for its 60th straight defeat. Kopet had 14 points and Waller six for the Huskies (0-9, 0-15).
Central-Hale girls basketball
Mehryn Kraker and Claire Hankins combined for 34 points, connecting on five 3-point goals, as the Bulldogs dropped the Huskies, 60-29, on Jan. 25.
Kraker tallied 20 points and Hankins 14 for Central, which also received 12 points from Sierra Brown and eight from Janie Myles. Hale was led by Jennifer Stawicki's 12 points and Brianna Bailey's six.
Central (7-2 in the Greater Metro Conference, 11-3 overall going into this week) beat Sussex Hamilton, 51-46, on Friday behind 18 points from Kraker, 15 by Myles and 11 from Hankins. The Huskies (1-8, 1-15) lost to Menomonee Falls, 57-39, on Friday despite 13 points from Erin Barbeau and 10 by Stawicki.
West Allis gymnastics
Emily Fuchs placed second in the all-around with 36.725 points at Saturday's Kenosha Invitational.
Fuchs won the vaulting with 9.45 points, tied for second in the balance beam at 9.3, tied for third in floor exercise with 9.175 and tied for sixth on the uneven parallel bars at 8.8.
Sara Quesnell was fifth in all-around (35.65) after taking third in vaulting (9.35), fourth on bars (8.9) and tying for fourth on beam (8.925).
Lauren Walker, Kathy O'Hara, Nicole Larson and Kori Huddleston also competed for West Allis, which finished fourth (132.175).
"The girls did a great job for their first big meet of the season," coach Katie Colombo said.
West Allis swimming
West Allis placed eighth in the Racine Case Invitational on Saturday.
Chris Malnory claimed third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley, while the 400 freestyle team of Joe Lamphear, Malnory, Joe Peters and Stephen Goratowski was fourth. Goratowski was third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle and Peters took sixth in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
The Wave beat Pius XI in a dual meet on Jan. 27 and captured third in the Milwaukee Riverside Sprint Invitational on Jan. 26. Winning were Peters in the 50 fly and 100 flies, Malnory in the 50 and 100 backstrokes, and Lamphear, Malnory, Peters and Goratowski in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Personal bests highlighted the Falcons' 17th-place finish in the Small School State Meet on Saturday at Shorewood.
Alex Bell had bests in the 200 individual medley (2:23.16) and in the 100 breaststroke. Alex Knighton dropped almost a second in the 50 freestyle (25.74) and two seconds in the 100 backstroke (1:09.27).
In diving, Jake Damro was 15th and Nick Bell 16th for the Falcons, who tallied 24 points.
The Hustlin' Hawks came in fifth in the Sheboygan South Duals on Saturday.
Greenfield lost to Oshkosh North, 45-21, and to West Bend West, 55-21, then beat Lena/St. Thomas Academy, 48-26; Sheboygan South, 43-26 and Oconto, 56-18.
Heavyweight Wahid Othman and Taylor Wirtz (130 pounds) both went 5-0, while Andrew Krueger (140) and Dominic Kroll (135) both finished 4-1.
The Hawks also blanked Greendale/St. Thomas More, 77-0, on Jan. 26.
Greenfield boys basketball
Despite 19 points from Reggie Blakely, 12 from Ricky Santiago and 10 by Austin Jacobsen, the Hustlin' Hawks lost to Greendale, 52-49, on Jan. 25.
Greenfield (2-10 in the Woodland Conference and 3-14 overall) then dropped a 73-58 game to St. Thomas More on Friday despite 22 points from Santiago.
West Allis Hale wrestling
The Huskies lost a 37-34 Greater Metro Conference dual to Brookfield East on Jan. 27.
Trevor Krusick (112 pounds) and Julius Dentici (160) both provided pins for the Huskies, who next compete in the GMC Tournament on Friday, Feb. 4, at Brookfield Central.
