The familiar story revolves around Maria Rainer (portrayed by Sandra Polakowski) and her quest for her place in life. Since the convent doesn't seem to be a good fit for Rainer, Mother Abbess (played by Natalie Zember) suggests that she take a position as a governess for Captain Georg von Trapp's (Matt Clarey) seven children: Liesl (Lexie Peterson), Friederich (Eli Haas), Louisa (Karina Polacek and Lydia DeFatte), Kurt (Brandon Robakowski and Eric Effinger), Brigitta (Aimee Galaszewski and Caitlyn Wiorek), Marta (Ariana Petersen and Brittany Munoz), and Gretl (Leslie Murawski and Katherine Beaudot).
When Maria arrives, she finds a group of children who love their father deeply, and who miss him as he is away on his military assignments, but who are not very happy. With Maria, the children rekindle their love of music, which their father has banned since the death of their mother.
Upon his return, Captain von Trapp, who has brought along his fiancée, Elsa Schroeder (Samantha Gager), is not happy to hear his children singing, but his friend, Max Detweiler (Joe McNutt) enters them into a competition.
As time passes, the captain and Maria fall in love and get married, but the happiness doesn't last very long. Right before the big competition, Captain von Trapp's military expertise is needed by the Nazis. Although Liesl's boyfriend, Rolf (Kyle Martindale), is eager to sign up to serve the Nazis, Captain von Trapp is not as certain about his future.
