Man gets busted

for pot possession twice

A 21-year-old Wauwatosa man who was arrested for possession of marijuana the evening of Feb. 24 was arrested for the same crime less than 24 hours later when he returned to the Greenfield Police Station, reeking of marijuana, to report he left his cell phone in the lobby the night before.

According to police:

Police first arrested the man and two passengers in his car, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, for possession of marijuana and prowling at about 10:15 p.m. Feb. 24, after a resident called to report a suspicious vehicle parked at a dead end on South 72nd Street and West Van Norman Avenue.

All three subjects were booked, cited and released later that evening.

At about 6 p.m. the next evening, the 21-year-old returned to the Greenfield Police Station to report he left his smartphone in the police department lobby after he was released from custody the night before. The officer who responded to the lobby to take his report noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the man. After a search revealed he was in possession of marijuana, as well as some illegal prescription narcotics, he was again arrested for possession of a controlled substance and was taken into custody on state drug charges.

When officers went to the parking lot to notify the man's friends that he had been arrested, they noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from their vehicle, according to the report. Police searched the vehicle and arrested both occupants, a juvenile girl and the same 17-year-old boy who was arrested the night before, for possession of drug paraphernalia. The two were cited and released to the custody of a parent.

However, when the girl's mother came to the police station to pick her up, police discovered the woman had a valid warrant for contempt of court with the Greenfield Police Department.

The 37-year-old was released from the station after signing a personal bond.
