Resident helps police catch purse thief

An alert resident who called police after she saw a woman acting suspiciously helped officers capture two purse thieves on Aug. 16.

According to the Greenfield police log:

A resident in the 4200 block of South 78th Street contacted police at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 to report seeing a woman searching through a wallet, then throw a blue purse into her neighbor's yard. When the suspect became aware the resident was calling police, she fled on foot, running through several yards.

The caller gave police a detailed description of the suspect and police quickly found the woman and a man on 80th Street and Plainfield Avenue.

Both suspects, a 22-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were arrested for theft. After a police search, the man was arrested for possession of marijuana and the woman was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The man was also found to have three open warrants with the Menomonee Falls Police Department and one open warrant with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

Both suspects were taken to the county jail facility.
