Greenfield postpones debate on cell tower in residential neighborhood

Nov. 13, 2013

A Greenfield Plan Commission discussion of a controversial cellphone tower proposed for a residential neighborhood had to be put off Tuesday because the AT&T application for the tower was not complete.

Four nearby residents came to Tuesday's meeting to object to the more than 70-foot tower. Typically, cellphone towers are not erected within residentially zoned areas, but this one would be on the property of a neighborhood tavern, which has commercially zoned.

AT&T has said it wants to erect the tower because the area has no or weak reception for its cellphone network.

Provided that the application is complete, the Plan Commission will welcome comments on the tower at its Dec. 10 meeting, when the matter is expected to be discussed again. However, an official public will be set for a later date.
