Greenfield - Anyone interested in serving the city or its schools can file for any of the available elected posts this month.
The filing deadline for all municipal and school offices is 5 p.m. Jan. 3. Incumbents who don't want to seek re-election have until Dec. 23 to file declarations of noncandidacy. If they don't, the deadline will be extended for everyone else to file.
Terms of incumbents on the Common Council and School Board will expire in April, when local general elections will be held.
Common Council
In the city, the terms of Aldermen Karl Kastner, District 3, Pam Akers, District 4, and Shirley Saryan, District 5, will expire. Aldermanic terms are three years and aldermen receive $6,300 annually plus $3,300 in mileage and other expenses.
Nomination papers are to be filed at the Greenfield City Hall, 7325 W. Forest Home Ave.
School boards
The terms of three incumbents also will be up on the Greenfield School Board. They are those of Audrey Ellison, Rick Moze and Julie Rome. Terms are for three years and members receive $4,200 currently.
Nomination papers can be filed at the district office, 4850 S. 60th St.
The Whitnall School Board has kicked up the most filings with incumbent Michael Clarizio already filing for re-election and Bill Osterndorf filing papers declaring that he will not run.
Meanwhile, Quinten Brunette who was one of three challengers that failed to unseat three incumbents on the Whitnall School Board last April, has filed to run next April. No one else had filed as of Monday in the district office, 5000 S. 116th St., Greenfield.
