Man stabs customer during attempted robbery
Police are seeking an unidentified man who stabbed a customer with a pocketknife during an attempted robbery at a Greenfield business on New Year's Day.
According to the Greenfield police log:
An employee at Jen's Beverage, 4312 W. Howard Ave., called police after the man attempted to rob the business at about 8:15 p.m. Jan. 1. The customer, a 65-year-old man who told police he works and helps out at the store, overheard him demanding money from the cashier and pulled out a throwing knife he had been carrying in an attempt to scare him from the store. The subject did not obtain any money from the cashier, but did manage to stab the customer in the side as he exited the store.
The victim sustained a stab wound in his lower left abdomen and was transported to Froedtert Hospital where he was treated and released.
The suspect is described as a white male, age 20 to 25, wearing a brown Carhartt jacket with a purple hoodie underneath, blue jeans, white shoes and a brown face mask or scarf covering his mouth and face. He was last seen fleeing westbound on foot down Howard Avenue.
Greenfield police believe the same subject was responsible for stealing a cellphone from a car parked in the lot at Speedway, 3390 W. Loomis Road, about 10 minutes before the attempted robbery at Jen's.
Men arrested for burglary at substation
Officers responding to an entry alarm at the We Energies substation arrested two men for attempting to steal $14,000 worth of copper wire on Christmas Eve.
According to Greenfield police:
Officers heard the two suspects, a 26-year-old Milwaukee man and a 21-year-old West Allis man, inside the substation, 9601 W. Cold Spring Road, when they responded to an entry alarm shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 24. Officers formed a perimeter around the station, ordered the men out and arrested them after they exited the building.
During the investigation, officers found footprints in the snow that led across a field to a pickup truck containing various tools. Police also found more tools lying on the floor in the substation, as well as $14,000 of copper wire placed near a door.
The West Allis man admitted to police that he went to the substation to steal scrap metal because he is addicted to painkillers. The two men were arrested for burglary and taken into custody.
Shoplifting suspect flees police
Greenfield police are seeking a shoplifting suspect who led police on a chase Dec. 29.
A loss prevention specialist at Walmart, 10600 W. Layton Ave., called police at about 5 p.m. after seeing the suspect, a 37-year-old man, inside the store. The employee told police the man was a "known thief" who usually pushes a cart full of unpaid merchandise out of the store through the lawn and garden center.
When officers arrived at Walmart, the suspect fled the lot in a gray or silver Honda Accord and a police pursuit ensued. The pursuit was later terminated and the suspect was last seen driving eastbound on Lincoln Avenue from Beloit Road.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
