Plans for Whitnall disc golf course advance

Greenfield - By a unanimous vote, the Whitnall School Board confirmed Monday that it is open to the concept of a disc golf course in what is known as the nature pod near Whitnall high and middle schools.

With its vote, the board gave the official go-ahead to Whitnall senior Clayton Anderson to begin filling out the details of his plan. Anderson, 17, wanted to give something back to the school. So he started developing plans for a disc golf course on the 5.4-acre nature pod. The nearest disc golf course might be as far as New Berlin, said school board member T.J. Anderson, Clayton's father.

Disc golf is similar to golf, except that players throw flying discs like Frisbees toward a metal basket on a pole.

The school district owns the nature pod, a wetland parcel science classes use for their studies. That would continue, under Anderson's proposal.

Now he will work on a financing plan for the project expected to cost less than $15,000. He will also test neighbors' reactions and see what the city's perspective might be. School administrators are helping him and others in the community are interested in participating.
