Intoxicated driver cited in injury-causing crash
Three people were transported to area hospitals after a drunk driver lost control of his car while making a left turn and struck a car stopped for a red light on Cold Spring Road and 27th Street shortly after 1 p.m. Nov. 9.
According to the accident report:
A 28-year-old Greenfield man traveling northbound on 27th Street was attempting to make a left turn to go east on Cold Spring Road when he lost control of his car, overcompensated and struck a vehicle that was stopped for a red light in the eastbound lane of Cold Spring.
The driver of the stopped car, a 60-year-old Milwaukee man, was injured in the accident and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The Greenfield man received minor injuries and was taken to Froedtert Hospital. He was cited for second-offense drunken driving, making an improper turn and operating after revocation.
A 36-year-old Milwaukee man, who was a passenger in his car, was taken to St. Francis Hospital. During the investigation Greenfield police discovered he had two outstanding warrants with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department and a hold was placed on his release.
Suspected iPad thieves arrested after car chase
Two men are facing charges after they shoplifted over $7,500 of merchandise at Best Buy, then led Greenfield police on high-speed chase about 2:45 p.m. Nov. 7.
According to Greenfield police:
Store security from the store, 4610 S. 76th St., reported that the men had just loaded a cart full of iPads and video games and fled out the door with the unpaid merchandise.
Officers arrived while the suspects were loading the stolen merchandise into a car. One suspect fled on foot while the other sped away in the car, and a police pursued it. The pursuit was terminated at Layton Avenue and Loomis Road after police found the suspect vehicle abandoned at the Loomis Professional Building in the 4600 block of West Loomis Road.
The driver, a 24-year-old Milwaukee man, was located at Ray's Butcher Shop and taken into custody. The second suspect who fled on foot, a 25-year-old Milwaukee man, was found at the FedEx store in the 4700 block of South 76th Street, where he was taken into custody.
The two men are facing charges of felony retail theft and eluding an officer.
