Greenfield - About 55 active volunteers keep the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center going.
One of those is Denise Bruneau, who has provided love and care to more than 60 kittens during the five years she has been a foster mom for the center.
"I just love it," she said.
While giving them up is hard, she does it because she wants to help kittens find permanent homes, Bruneau said.
As it is, she did keep two, who proved to be the making of her foster home. Both the former foster kittens grew up to be loving cats who nurse all the little kittens who come in.
One of the first volunteers for the center, Bruneau never knows what to expect from her fluffy, inquisitive little family.
"One used to sleep in the sink all the time," she said, "and for some reason they all love the bathtub."
Looking back with the experience of an expert, the kitten foster mom said, "They're a cross between an alien and a 2-year-old. It's a good thing they're so cute."
