If you are wondering what to do with the books, audio-books, CDs and DVDs that you no longer need, please consider donating them to the Greenfield Public Library.  The Library needs your used materials – in good condition only, please – for the Greenfield Library Used Book Sale scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 10:00am – 3pm.  Donations will be accepted at the Check-Out Desk through May 8.  Please note that we cannot accept books published prior to 2003, textbooks, VHS tapes, cassette tapes or magazines.  We welcome your donations and look forward to seeing you at the sale next month.

CULVER’S KID’S DRAWING ACTIVITY

Kids, celebrate your favorite book by drawing a picture about it.  Culver’s and Greenfield Public Library have teamed up for National Library Week with a literacy-based drawing activity.  Celebrate your favorite book by drawing a picture about it.  It can be a character, event, scene, or anything you liked about the book.  Return the drawing to the Children’s Librarian and you will receive a certificate for a FREE single scoop of Culver’s Frozen Custard in a cake cone or dish to be redeemed at a participating neighborhood Culver’s.  You will also be eligible to win a special prize in a random drawing at GPL to win a Culver’s Kid’s Meal.  You must be eleven or younger to participate and only submit one drawing.

FINALLY.

Every entry, we try to include a themed topic to highlight our collection.  This time we highlight one of America’s greatest thriller authors.

TOM CLANCY

This past week on April 12, author Tom Clancy celebrated his 66th birthday.  Clancy is best known for his detailed espionage and military-based storylines set during the aftermath of the Cold War which mostly follow characters Jack Ryan and John Clark into a world of intense political and warzone situations.  Besides his military thrillers, Clancy has written several non-fiction books about various branches of the armed forces and has multiple ghost-written series of paperbacks that bear his name and support up-and-coming authors that write in Clancy’s signature style and genre.

Clancy has branched beyond the written word.  Many young people probably have never heard of Tom Clancy as an author but have played multiple video games based on his books including the popular Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell series.  A number of Clancy’s books have been turned into commercially successful films including Clear and Present Danger starring Harrison Ford and The Hunt for Red October starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin to name a few.  With respect to this popular author, we highlight our Tom Clancy holdings at GPL.
