Greetings fellow Greenfield Public Library Patrons!

Thanks for coming back to the blog!  We know it has been a while since we last wrote to you and we are trying to keep the blog as up-to-date as possible to keep you informed of all the happenings here at the Library.  We hope to see you here soon.  Here are a couple things coming up at GPL.

POPULAR TEEN AUTHORS ALYSON NOËL, C.C. HUNTER, AND RAINBOW ROWELL TO VISIT GREENFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY

Boswell Books and the Greenfield Public Library are pleased to sponsor a visit by teen authors Alyson Noël, C.C. Hunter, and Rainbow Rowell (authors of Soul Seekers, Shadow Falls, and Eleanor and Park) on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30pm in the Greenfield Library Community Room.  This program is free and registration is not required.  Books will be made available to purchase or you may bring your own to be signed.  Don’t miss an opportunity to meet these popular authors!  For more information, call the library at 414-321-9595.

GPL ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR UPCOMING FOURTH ANNUAL GREENFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY USED BOOK SALE

Greenfield Public Library welcomes your donations of used books, DVDs, and CDs for our upcoming Used Book Sale.  Donations will be accepted at the Library Check Out Desk through May 8.  Watch for more information about our sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

Please note that we cannot accept books published before 2003, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or magazines.  Materials must be in good condition only, please!  Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the sale.

ALAN KULWICKI COLLECTION

The Milwaukee Historical Society will open Alan Kulwicki: A Champion’s Story, on April 5, 2013 with the exhibit remaining on display until December 31, 2013.  A preview of the exhibit will be featured in Greenfield, the community Kulwicki was born and raised in, at Greenfield Public Library.  GPL will host the display for the month of April, during normal business hours.

A University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate and one of the most successful owner-drivers in NASCAR history, Alan Kulwicki won five NASCAR Winston Cup races, numerous pole positions, and in one of the most dramatic season-ending finishes in history, defeated Bill Elliott by a scant ten points to win the 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship.  Sadly, the celebration was short-lived as Alan and five others were killed in a plane crash near Bristol Motor Speedway on April 1, 1993.

Celebrate the life and legacy of one of Greenfield’s native sons, Alan Kulwicki, with artifacts of an amazing racing career here at Greenfield Public Library during the month of April.

FINALLY…

The blog usually closes with an emphasis on our vast collection and its relation to historic events.  This week we look at one of England’s longest reigning monarchs.

Queen Elizabeth I

March 24 is the 410th anniversary of the death of Elizabeth I.  Elizabeth was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty.  Daughter of the infamous Henry VIII, Elizabeth reigned as Queen of England for 44 years.  The “Virgin Queen” remains to this day a popular figure and we highlight our volumes dedicated to Elizabeth I.
