Morningstar Ranks Wisconsin Retirement System Strongest and Illinois System Weakest

Morningstar, an investment research firm, reports the Wisconsin Retirement System has a 99.8% funded ratio with a liability of $23 per resident, while Illinois has the worst of all 50 states with a 43.4% funded ratio and a liability of $6,503 per resident.  Click here for more information about Morningstar’s report.

Badgers Play In Rose Bowl Today

For the second straight season, the Wisconsin Badgers are playing for the granddaddy of all college bowl games.  The Rose Bowl kicks off at 3:30 PM today, with the No. 9 Badgers playing the No. 6 Oregon Ducks.  The game will be televised on ESPN.  The radio broadcast can be found locally on 620 WTMJ AM.

Senate Republican 2013-2014 Legislative Session Committee Assignments

The 2013-2014 Legislative Session Senate Republican committee chairs and committee memberships are determined.  I am appointed chair of the Senate Committee on Elections and Urban Affairs, and member of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) and member of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.  The Senate Democrats will announce their appointments to committees in the future.  The legislative session begins with inauguration cermonies January 7, 2013.

Governor Declares State of Emergency in Response to Severe Winter Weather

Today, Governor Walker issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in response to the upcoming winter storm.  Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected to be moving across the state beginning December 19, 2012.  The Executive Order will ready the Wisconsin Emergency Management, the Wisconsin National Guard, the State Patrol, and other Wisconsin state agencies.

Wisconsin’s Health Ranking Compares Well Nationally

The news within the United Health Foundation 2012 Edition of America’s Health Rankings is generally good for our state. Wisconsin ranked 16 in overall health among the 50 states. Vermont came in as the overall healthiest, while Mississippi and Louisiana tied for last.

The rankings take a variety of factors into account, including rates of obesity, infant mortality, violent crime, occupational fatalities, infectious disease, smoking, and sedentary lifestyles.
