Whitnall School District News

The Whitnall School District serves the communities of Hales Corners, Greenfield and Franklin and is comprised of Hales Corners Elementary, Edgerton Elementary, Whitnall Middle School and Whitnall High School.

Whitnall Schools Closed Monday, Jan. 6, Due to Cold

Due to extreme cold temperatures in the forecast, all Whitnall Public Schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 6. All co-curricular, evening activities, before- and after-school day care programs and community events at all schools are also cancelled.


Student safety is the district's top priority when making decisions to close schools.

Due to continued extreme cold temperatures, all Whitnall Public Schools will be closed again Tuesday, Jan. 7. All co-curricular, evening activities, before- and after-school day care programs and community events at all schools are also cancelled.

Student safety is the district's top priority when making decisions to close schools.

Wednesday, Jan. 8, remains a late start/early release day for all schools. Please follow that schedule.

Whitnall High School Needs Volunteers for National Wheelchair Basketball Tourney

Whitnall High School, Whitnall School District, National Wheelchair Basketball Association

Whitnall High School is hosting a four-team National Wheelchair Basketball Association tournament Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1 One game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. Games Saturday begin at 8:30 a.m. and run every 2 hours throughout the day and evening.

Teams will include the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Hornets, Grand Rapids Pacers, New York Knicks and the hometown Milwaukee Wheelchair Bucks, who began January undefeated (14-0) and ranked second in the nation. The Bucks feature 11 players who reside in Wisconsin, including University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s wheelchair basketball coach Jeremy Lade.

Whitnall HS to Host Wisconsin State Open Powerlifting Competition

Whitnall High School, Whitnall Powerlifting

Whitnall High School has been chosen to host the 2014 Wisconsin State Open Powerlifting Competition at 9 a.m. Jan. 18.

The sanctioned USA Powerlifting (USAPL) contest is expected to feature 115 powerlifters in three events: a three-lift competition, bench press only and a push-pull challenge. The competition is open to athletes from around the country ages 14 and up.

Humanities Class Gets Hands-On Training

 The 20 members of Whitnall High School’s humanities class got plenty of hands-on learning this semester.

During the first few months of the school year, students were treated to visits from a special effects makeup artist, a choreographer workshop and most recently, Christopher Elst, a member of the Society of American Fight Directors, who taught the students the art of stage combat.

Longtime Whitnall High School wrestling coach John Quinlan earned his 500th career coaching victory when his Falcons defeated visiting Woodland Conference rival Wauwatosa, 35-31, Thursday.

Elementary Family Math Night is Approaching

Hales Corners Elementary School, Edgerton Elementary School, Whitnall School District

Elementary Family Math Night is right around the corner.

Families are encouraged to stop by their school for an evening of free, self-directed math games and activities. This year, the schools — Edgerton Elementary and Hales Corners Elementary — will utilize a number of commercial games to show parents and guardians resources they may already have or other things they can try at home.
Stations with iPads and computers will also be available.
Families are free to come and go as they wish between 6-7:30 p.m. on the following evenings:
  • Tuesday, Feb. 4 — Hales Corners Elementary
  • Thursday, Feb. 6 — Edgerton Elementary
All students who attend will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to the Learning Shop. Take-home resource packs for each grade level, with additional games and suggestions for home, will also be available.
New this year … all students who attend will receive one free math homework pass (teachers will determine which assignments are eligible for a pass). Also, HCE students attending will receive one Falcon Feather for taking personal responsibility for learning.
