The Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool will open the the first phase of the Alyson Dudek International Ice Center to the public during a grand-opening event at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

The ice rink will be located in Hales Corners Park near the basketball courts and Veterans Memorial and next to the Hales Corners Pool.

People of all ages will be able to enjoy free, outdoor ice skating on the 64-foot by 88-foot ice rink. The rink

will eventually be a permanent winter venue in the Village of Hales Corners, and will honor its

hometown hero Alyson Dudek. Dudek and her teammates won the Bronze medal in short track

Team and is working towards qualifying for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Hales Corners Park & Pool, Milwaukee County Parks Dept., Village of Hales Corners, and private

businesses. Phase II of the ice center includes an outdoor picnic pavilion with restrooms and is

planned to open in 2014.

"It is so exciting to see our vision become a reality for the park," says Don Schwartz, president of

the Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool and chair of the Alyson Dudek International Ice Center

Committee. "We thank the community and local businesses for their generous donations and all

of the partners who have been diligently working together for the last 24 months to make this
