I live in Greenfield with my husband and cat. I work full time. Frugality and simplicity have been a part of my life long before they became popular and it has made life a lot less stressful. I love volunteering, home improvement/decorating, crafting and gardening.
We were getting frustrated with our Basic Cable TV service from Time Warner so cancelled it after having it for many, many years. Many people in our condo complex also did so but switched to AT & T Uverse. In order to cancel Time Warner, we had to sit on the phone for 45 minutes and then take a piece of equipment back to Southridge to the Time Warner store and wait for another 45 minutes in line. Many, many people were upset with Time Warner.
We don't watch a lot of TV but do like certain TV Shows, Movies, Classic Shows, Crafting/Food Channels, HSN and QVC. We purchased a high end indoor TV antenna online from Radio Shack and it has given us about 10 more channels than Basic Cable had....including music channels. In addition, we purchased a Roku 3 (works through internet) which give us many more additional options, including craft shows, QVC, HSN, classic movies and TV, music, Videos, nature, history, etc, etc. So far, we only pay $7.99/month for streaming movies from Netflicks - as many as we want per month. Other than that - no monthly fees.
We also made some changes with our telephone service - went with Uverse phone service and internet - about $5/month cheaper than the AT & T service we had before and more bells and whistles but have had problems with AT & T promising certain things and not delivering, etc. Plus, to get service, we again have to wait for 45 minutes or so or send an e-mail and wait for a response. Frustrating - as I work for a company that prides itself on a customer instantly being able to speak with a human being....no press 1 or press 2 or automated responses.
So far, so good with taking the plunge to cancel cable services.
